109 km of eFoiling:
from Ibiza to
Formentera.

Jan Willem went on an eFoil expedition with eFoiling Ibiza, guided by Dutch pro rider Laura Jil Kurmann. On day 2 he crossed from Ibiza to Formentera and rode along the island's coast: 109 kilometres in one day.

Glassy water and surfing the swell

"Hard to believe how amazing it was," writes Jan Willem. The route passed bays with the most beautiful colours of water and stretches of coast with cliffs. Sometimes the water was glassy, sometimes he surfed along on the swell. Later that week, on a ride along Ibiza's west coast, he came across a dolphin one morning.

How do you approach a ride this long?

The community immediately asked the right question: what's your back-up plan if something goes wrong? This team's answer: a safety boat comes along, for safety and to swap batteries.

That's no luxury. An eFoil battery lasts 60 to 120 minutes, depending on your weight, your wing and how you ride. For almost seven hours on the water you need several batteries, and someone to hand them over.

  • Bring a safety boat for help and battery swaps.
  • Helmet and impact vest, especially on open sea. See also eFoiling at sea.
  • Check the local rules when riding abroad. See eFoiling abroad.

On tour with a pro

The expedition is a tour by eFoiling Ibiza. Laura Jil Kurmann guides the rides herself. This year she became vice world champion of the Surf Foil World Tour 2026 in the pro women's division.

On the tours you discover Ibiza from the water: along beautiful cliffs, beaches and caves. With a bit of luck you'll see dolphins, like Jan Willem did. Racking up kilometres isn't the goal, unless you want to test your endurance!

The idea behind the tours: all you have to do is ride. The route, the safety boat, the battery swaps and the guidance on the water are all taken care of from start to finish. "Service and quality are our number one," says Laura. For anyone who wants to do a long ride on open sea without organising it themselves, that's exactly the difference.
