Smaller wing: faster, but your battery is flat in 36 minutes

A rider tested a smaller wing: super fast, but his battery was flat after 36 minutes. A good example of how your wing choice determines your ride time.

Illustration: a large wing lifts at low speed, a small wing is faster but uses more battery

An eFoiler on Reddit shared an honest experience. He rides a Waydoo Evo Pro with the 2300 battery and an aluminium prop, and switched from the C1500 Voyager wing to the smaller C1100. His verdict: “Super fast, I mean really fast.” But his battery was empty after 36 minutes. For the last bit, his wife towed him back to shore.

Why a smaller wing uses more power

The wing under your board creates the lift that raises you out of the water. A large wing lifts you at low speed: you get up easily, ride stable and calm, and your battery lasts longer. A small wing needs more speed to carry you. It’s more agile and faster, but your motor has to work harder, and that drains the battery.

Our FAQ already says it: how long a battery lasts depends on your weight, your wing and how you ride. This story shows how big that difference can be. It says nothing about the brand: it applies to any eFoil with a smaller wing.

What does this mean for you?

  • Just starting? Choose a large wing. You’ll learn faster and ride longer.
  • Want to try a smaller wing? Do it close to shore first, and keep an eye on your battery indicator.
  • Planning a longer ride? Use your most efficient setup, or make sure someone can pick you up.

Not sure which wing suits you? Dealers often let you try different sizes. See the shops.
