202.9 kilometres down the Danube: the world's first eFoil rally

Bavaria hosted the first-ever eFoil rally: over 200 kilometres down the Danube to Passau. With Dutch rider Piet Varkevisser on the Lift team.

On 29 August 2026, something new happened in Germany: an eFoil rally. No laps around buoys, but one long ride of 202.9 kilometres down the Danube, finishing at the main bridge in Passau. The Bavarian eFoil Rally was organised by EFOIL BASE.

Six hours on the water

According to Lift Foils, the rally took about six hours. That’s a very different game from a race of a few minutes: you ride a river with current, bends and other traffic, and you have to plan your batteries carefully. 200 kilometres in six hours: a true endurance race.

A Dutch rider on the Lift team

Dutch rider Piet Varkevisser races for the Lift team and appears in the video. Piet is one of the riders we’ll soon feature in our new pro section, including how you prepare for a distance like this.

What does this mean for you?

Long distances on an eFoil are becoming more common. You saw it in Jan Willem’s story, who rode 109 kilometres from Ibiza to Formentera. The secret isn’t one super battery, it’s planning: support on the water and batteries swapped along the way. Want to try a longer ride yourself? Start small, never ride alone, and first read how long a battery lasts.
