Maintenance after riding: rinsing, contacts and bolts

A few minutes after every session keep your eFoil in good shape for longer. Three things keep coming up: rinsing with fresh water, protecting the electrical contacts and greasing the bolts in time.

Maintenance isn’t the most fun part of eFoiling, but it’s the part that decides how long your board lasts. Lift Foils released two short how-to videos, and on Reddit a rider asked how often others grease their bolts. Together they make a handy basic routine.

1. Rinse with fresh water

In the video above, a Lift instructor shows how to rinse your board after riding. The goal: get salt and sand out of the contacts, seals and moving parts. That’s not just for sea riders. On many Dutch lakes you bring sand along from the beach, and on the coast or in Zeeland you get salt as well.

Tip: keep a watering can or garden hose ready by your car or shed. Then you won’t skip it when you get home tired and happy.

2. Protect the electrical contacts

In a second video, Lift shows how to treat the battery and drive connectors and the seals against corrosion. A small drop per connector is enough, spread over the metal contact surface. Lift uses its own product for this.

Riding another brand? Check the manual for the product your manufacturer recommends, and don’t just use anything. The wrong product can do more harm than good.

3. Grease bolts and screws

On Reddit, a rider who rides in salt water says his manufacturer recommends taking the board apart once a month and greasing the bolts with an anti-corrosion grease. He rinses everything after every session and detaches the mast. That advice comes via one rider, so check what your manufacturer says. Especially in salt water, it pays not to wait too long.

What does this mean for you?

A simple routine is enough: rinse after every session, check the contacts now and then, and grease the bolts as the manual says. Unsure? Ask the shop where you bought your board, or in the community. Many riders there have their own routine.
