63.8 km/h on an eFoil: new speed record claimed

What was reported

Rider @chucho_nonnot writes on Instagram that he broke the eFoil speed record. He rode a Waydoo board that, according to him, was built to be as fast as possible. The numbers he gives:

  • Top speed: 63.8 km/h
  • Held for 10 seconds: 61.8 km/h

Waydoo built the board, and the rider thanks the team for its support.

Is it an official record?

That’s unclear. There’s no official body that keeps eFoil speed records, and the post doesn’t say how the speed was measured. So it’s a claim by the rider and the brand, not a recognised record. We haven’t found other sources confirming it.

How fast is that?

Very fast. The fastest off-the-shelf eFoils reach up to about 50 km/h, and most riders go a lot slower. For comparison: pro rider Piet Varkevisser described a test on Lake Garda in his interview, where he was launched into the water at 59.2 km/h.

What does this mean for you?

Mostly a nice look at what’s technically possible. In the Netherlands you may only reach such speeds in designated high-speed zones, with a boating licence and RDW registration. Elsewhere the limit is 20 km/h. Read more about where you can go how fast. And if you want to go fast: wear a helmet and an impact vest that also works as a life jacket.
